Nigerian Official Selection Committee (NOSC), led by its president Stephanie Linus Okereke, has announced the opening of submissions for Nigeria’s entry in the Best International Feature Film category at the 98th Academy Awards.

Recognised by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) as the sole authority to select Nigeria’s contender for the category, the NOSC will accept entries from 13 August to 12 September 2025 via its official portal.
Last year, Nigeria put forward the Hausa-language epic Mai Martaba as its entry for the 97th Academy Awards. The film, however, did not advance to the final nominations.
To be eligible, submissions must be feature-length productions created outside the United States, with at least 50 per cent of dialogue in a language other than English. Nigerian Pidgin English qualifies under this rule. All entries must include accurate English subtitles and adhere to AMPAS-approved technical formats, which include 35 mm, 70 mm, or Digital Cinema formats. Full eligibility criteria and submission procedures are detailed on the NOSC website.
The selected title will represent Nigeria at the Oscars ceremony on 15 March 2026 in Los Angeles, competing alongside international films for one of cinema’s most prestigious honours. The event will be broadcast live to more than 200 territories worldwide.
