
The upcoming feature film Dust to Dreams is set to make its World Premiere at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), taking place from September 4 to 14, 2025.

The announcement marks a major milestone for African cinema, spotlighting a collaboration between international and Nigerian talent on one of the world’s most prestigious film stages.
Conceived by Mo Abudu, the film has been adapted for screen and directed by Golden Globe winner Idris Elba, with production by EbonyLife Films. Dust to Dreams tells a moving story about family, legacy, and the healing power of music, bringing together two global icons Idris Elba and Grammy Award-winning artist Seal in a narrative set against the vibrant backdrop of Lagos.
The cast includes celebrated Nigerian actress Nse Ikpe-Etim, television personality Eku Edewor, Atlanta Bridget Johnson, and rising star Constance Olatunde. The film’s creative team also features renowned costume designers Yolanda Okereke and Lanre Da Silva Ajayi, director of photography Tristan Chenais, and production designer Surisa Surisa.
Speaking about the film, Mo Abudu noted that Dust to Dreams is “a labour of love” and a celebration of “creativity, culture, and excellence.” The project has been made possible with support from Afreximbank.
With its premiere at TIFF, Dust to Dreams joins a growing list of African films making waves on the international festival circuit, reinforcing Lagos’s position as a vibrant hub for world-class storytelling.
