Africa’s First AI-Powered Film Makemation Debuts This Easter, A New Kind of Nollywood Story Begins

This Easter weekend, something groundbreaking is happening at the cinemas and it’s more than just a movie release. Makemation, Africa’s first AI-powered feature film, is officially here, making history with a story that’s as innovative as the tech behind it.

Africa’s First AI-Powered Film Makemation Debuts This Easter, A New Kind of Nollywood Story Begins

Set in rural Lagos, Makemation follows 17-year-old Zara Sodangi, a brilliant but overlooked teenager who secures a coveted spot at Nigeria’s top tech school. Her journey is anything but smooth; poverty, sick parents, and societal bias threaten to derail her dreams. But with grit, mentorship, and raw brilliance, Zara enters the fast-paced world of artificial intelligence, product design, and data analytics, all while competing for a scholarship that could transform her family’s future.

It’s a coming-of-age drama, yes, but Makemation is also a bold celebration of resilience, innovation, and the unstoppable force of young African girls stepping into tech spaces traditionally closed to them.

Directed with heart and vision, the film features a stellar lineup: Tomi Ojo, Chimezie Imo, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Shaffy Bello, Yvonne Jegede, Tony Umez, Jide Kosoko, Ibrahim Chatta, and more, blending Nollywood veterans with rising stars.

With AI as both a theme and a production tool, Makemation pushes boundaries on and off screen. But at its core, it’s a human story about dreams, survival, and what it means to fight for a future you believe in.

Makemation is now showing in cinemas across Nigeria.
